Vacheron Constantin has just announced a VC Les Historiques Cornes de Vache 1955 chronograph replica, in a 38.5mm platinum case, 10.9 mm thick. That reference was produced for only a few years and only 36 were made: 26 in yellow gold, eight in pink gold, and two in platinum. “Cornes de Vache” means “horns of a cow” more or less, which is a much more richly descriptive term than the usual “teardrop lugs.” Christie’s had one last June that hammered for $40,000. The lot notes mention that this was actually the last chronograph reference VC made until 1989.This is an absolutely classic two-register dress chronograph in a pitch-perfect size, and as we mentioned, based on a pretty rare model, the reference 6087.
We covered the Harmony Collection at its launch of course, and like a lot of visitors to the SIHH we were really excited by what we saw including the Grand Complication Rattrapante and the very intriguing Harmony Chronograph with the all new caliber 3300. But we also loved the fact that the Vacheron caliber 1142 was present in the new Harmony Collection as well – albeit at a size, and with decoration in the form of diamonds on the bezel, that clearly showed the firm saw it as a complicated Vacheron Constantin replica watch primarily for female clients.
At SIHH 2015 Vacheron Constantin launched its new Harmony Collection and one of the big favorites amongst enthusiasts was the Harmony Chronograph Small Model, which houses the much-loved column wheel, hand-wound chronograph caliber 1142 (based on the Lemania 2310, but updated by Vacheron with a number of upgrades and improvements – including a free-sprung adjustable mass balance, higher frequency, and an engraved balance cock, among other things, as well as the level of meticulous hand-finishing you’d expect from Vacheron.
We’ll be reporting live on the Les Historiques Cornes de Vache 1955 from Watches and Wonders and in the meantime, here are the specs. No word on pricing yet. But that watch was positioned by the company as a lady’s timepiece (as always, the diamond setting and small size don’t definitively make the watch gender specific but that’s how Vacheron saw the Harmony Small Model fitting in its collections.) But just today they’ve launched a watch that’s really going to get enthusiasts going: the Cornes de Vache 1955, a 38.5mm watch based on the reference 6087 from the 1950s – one of the rarest and most collectible Vacheron Constantin chronographs.
